Bed-Stuy Brownstone
Brooklyn, NY
Major Renovation
Teaming with CWB Architects, MARTOS provided structural engineering design services for the renovation of this 1930’s townhouse located in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. The goal was to achieve a customized space for the client, while maintaining much of the brownstone’s historical charm. Phase One of the project was a gut renovation of the second and third floors, aimed at creating a more efficient use of space. Unique spaces were designed, including a Peloton niche, a video game alcove, and a closet dedicated equally as a wardrobe and a home for a curated record collection. Eventually a Phase Two will tackle the public zones of the house on the lower floors – the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Our structural scope of work included the review and design of joist sizing as well as a comprehensive framing plan for the upper floors. We also provided the structural design of dunnage.
